The Lake Geneva Public Library is partnering once again with the IRS and VITA program to bring free tax preparation services to our community. Thanks to our volunteers, who have been trained and certified by the IRS to prepare returns and make this program possible!
The VITA program has operated for over 50 years.
VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
People who generally make $67,000 or less
Persons with disabilities; and
Limited English-speaking taxpayers
While the IRS manages the VITA and TCE programs, the VITA/TCE sites are operated by IRS partners and staffed by volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities.VITA/TCE services are not only free, they are also a reliable and trusted source for preparing tax returns. All VITA/TCE volunteers who prepare returns must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. This training includes maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all taxpayer information. In addition to requiring volunteers to certify their knowledge of the tax laws, the IRS requires a quality review check for every return prepared at a VITA/TCE site prior to filing.
Tax preparation services will be available for federal and WI state returns for residents who have resided in WI for all of 2024. We will be preparing returns on a walk-in basis from February 1, 2025-April 8, 2025.
When you arrive, you will be asked to sign in with name, date, and time, and then required to complete an intake form. Intake forms are available at the library front desk and can be picked up anytime before you come for tax services if you prefer to speed up the process.
Walk in appointments will be available on a first come, first serve basis from 9am-1pm on Tuesdays, 1pm-4pm on Thursdays, and 9am-1pm on Saturdays (2/1/25-4/8/25). We will let taxpayers know if there is a long wait time so they can return another time. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to serve as many clients as possible.
